Surf Coast Picnic Co: Lynda Lister
The Surf Coast Picnic Co is all about making memories with family and friends in the outdoors, sampling some of the region’s cellar doors and finest produce while sightseeing, hanging out on the beach, or just lounging around a campsite.
Lynda and her young family moved to Torquay 10 years ago, to be close to the beach and nature. Together with her husband, Christian Lister, they started Surf Coast Picnic Co. We asked Lynda some questions about her business and life on the Surf Coast.
What is it about the Surf Coast that Inspires you?
“What a great place to live! We knew this before but after lockdown we truly realised how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful town with so many stunning beaches close by. And I’m loving that there are so many restaurants, breweries and wineries in town now. So now we not only have the surf we are spoiled for choice when it comes to entertaining.”
What is Surf Coast Picnic Co’s most popular product?
“The Great Ocean Road Escape - it’s a great taste sampler of different local producers and bakers from Torquay down to Timboon packaged up in a cooler bag with ecofriendly cutlery, glasses and everything you need. All you need to do is pack a picnic rug. We bring the farm gates, and cellar doors, to your door. Everyone compliments the cured meats and cheese… and that caramel popcorn!!. It’s all local and we love it. A menu is included so you know where everything has come from and where to visit on your travels should you want more.”
Where is your favourite place to dine out on the Surf Coast?
“This is a hard one, we like to share the love around, and we like so many. But I’ll say The Stoop and Il Matto”.
How did the idea of picnic hampers come about?
“This was a covid idea! We thought with regional travel in high demand it would be great to show off our backyard. Gathering picnic goodies is time consuming and you are missing out on some seriously good grub if you bypass the local offerings. As long-time small business owners we are passionate about supporting independents. When we travel we like to try and taste new things, so we hope that our picnics give people a taste of what’s on offer around the Great Ocean Road. We also make local hampers and regional grazing boxes. Sometimes you don’t need an occasion, you just might want to spoil yourself with some delicious food!
